Ok, so maybe it isn’t the “Ultimate” microphone pre-amp/processor based on other peoples opinions, however in our opinion this pre-amp should be considered in every pod-casters audio chain.

DBX 286s Audio Processor

I’ve had this device for several years and it delivers as expected. The nice thing about this unit is that it has almost everything you need in a single unit, without the need to purchase independent units for;

  • Pre-Amps
  • Compressors
  • De-Essors
  • Noise gates
  • Equalizers

This thing does it all. The only drawback I’ve seen with the DBX is that it does not have a power switch meaning it’s always on as long as it’s plugged up. This could be fixed by plugging it in a surge protector so you can turn it off when not in use.

The thing to understand is that its designed to be “On” all the time as it qualifies as a piece of semi-professional or pro-summer piece of gear as Darrin puts it in his video, for in home studios.
