When Your Diagnosis of Celiac Disease is in Question – Celiac Disease in the News

Dr. Joseph Murray, M.D., addresses a question by a Mayo Clinic Connect member whose blood tests are negative, but still had a diagnoses of celiac disease via endoscopy.

There may be other conditions that can cause changes in the intestinal biopsy characteristics of celiac disease. Tropical sprue, certain medications, or infections can cause this change, and Dr. Murray emphasizes the need to further investigate intestinal damage when test discrepancies occur.
